The short version
No account. No ads. No tracking. What you read, what you ask, the answers, your notes and your prayer list stay on your device.
On your device
Your reading history, questions and answers, profiles, study plans and settings are stored only on your device. Your prayer list is stored separately and encrypted (on the phone apps). You can export all of it as plain files or delete all of it at any time from Settings → Your data.
Answering your questions
Answers come from the model you choose. If it runs on your device, nothing leaves the device. If you connect your own server (for example Ollama on your computer), your question and the open chapter go to that server only.
If you choose the “Berean demo server”, your question, the open chapter and any earlier questions in the same conversation are sent to Albin Group’s server on Cloudflare, answered by an open model (Gemma) running on Cloudflare Workers AI, and returned to you. We do not store them. To enforce daily limits we keep a count of requests per day against a one-way hash of your network address, which cannot be turned back into the address and is replaced every day.
Diagnostics
By default the app sends error reports when something breaks: the error message (with web addresses and numbers that look like network addresses removed), where in the app it happened, the app version and platform, and a random ID created on your device that you can reset. If you opt in to anonymous usage, it also sends counts and timings — for example that a chapter was opened, or that a question was answered by a given model in a given number of seconds and how many citations failed their check.
Diagnostics never include your questions, the answers, which passages you read, your notes or your prayer list. They go only to Albin Group’s own server, are used only to fix and improve Berean, and are never sold or shared. Turn them off any time in Settings → Feedback & diagnostics.
Feedback
If you send feedback from the app, we receive the text you wrote along with the app version and platform. Please don’t include anything private.
Children
Berean has no accounts and collects no personal information, including from children. A profile can be set for a younger reader; it stays on the device.
